From His Ex-Wife to the World's Most Sought-After Restorer (Jade and Hudson) novel Chapter 39

Chapter 39 Drawing the Line

“You flatter me, Mrs. Merchant.”

Cindy waved Robert over. When she looked at Jade, her face turned sour as she spoke in a nasty, mocking tone.

“Jade, you should learn a thing or two from this lady. Stop acting like some petty nobody. It’s a total embarrassment.”

Robert pulled Chloe along. As he passed Jade, he let out a heavy, contemptuous snort.

“Useless!”

Jade stared back at him with icy eyes.

“Since you all look down on me so much, don’t bother calling me when you’re in trouble.”

Right in front of Robert and Cindy, she blocked all their numbers on her phone.

She had only ever answered Robert’s calls out of respect for Michael.

Now, it seemed she never had to pick up their calls again.

Even though she had rushed all the way here, Robert, Cindy, and even Michael wouldn’t give her a single ounce of gratitude.

So what was the point?

“You-”

Cindy’s face darkened. She rolled up her sleeves, fully intending to teach Jade a lesson, but catching sight of Hudson out of the corner of her eye, she forcefully swallowed her rage.

“Fine. I’m not your biological mother, so I can’t discipline you. But when your dad gets back, I’ll tell him exactly what happened today and let him straighten you out!”

With that, their group finally left.

Hudson and Amara walked out of the police station side by side, with Jade trailing behind them.

Jade watched as Amara spoke to Hudson. He tilted his body toward her, as if terrified of missing a single word she said.

When they walked down the steps, Hudson even gently reminded Amara to watch her footing.

In their three years of marriage, she had never once received that kind of treatment.

To him, she was nothing more than a maid he could summon and dismiss at will.

At best, she was a maid who doubled as a bed-warmer.

Rumors always claimed that Hudson, who was perpetually expressionless, was simply born cold-hearted. She used to believe that

too.

It wasn’t until Amara showed up that she realized Hudson wasn’t incapable of loving; his true love just hadn’t been by his side.

So now that the woman he truly loved had returned, he poured absolutely everything into her without a moment’s hesitation….

The scars Jade had painstakingly coaxed and deceived herself into healing were brutally ripped open once again.

Blood poured from her emotional wounds, the agony causing her heart to spasm and cramp uncontrollably. Her hands trembled violently at her sides, and her vision began to swim with black spots.

It hurt so much…

Loving Hudson truly, deeply hurt like hell…

Jade’s body swayed backward, but Kevin quickly caught her with lightning speed.

“Mrs. Walter!”

Hearing this shout, Hudson, who was walking ahead, seemed to finally remember that Jade even existed. He told Amara to get in the car first before turning back.

“What happened?”.

As the dizzy spell passed, Jade steadied herself and thanked Kevin.

“Thank you, Kevin.”

“It’s my duty, Mrs. Walter,” Kevin replied. Seeing she was stable, he let go and stepped aside.

Jade looked at Hudson standing in front of her. His eyes were so cold, utterly devoid of even a trace of warmth.

“Go keep Amara company. I just got a little dizzy, but I’m fine.”

Hudson wanted to say something, but realizing this wasn’t the right place to talk, he swallowed his words and turned to Kevin.

“Drive Mrs. Walter’s car and take her home.”

Kevin nodded slightly.

“Understood, Mr. Walter,”

Jade watched Hudson stride directly toward Amara’s car. She closed her eyes, swallowing all the bitter sorrow, and forced a weak smile at Kevin.

“Thanks for the trouble, Kevin,”

Inside the Maybach.

Amara sat in the passenger seat. Turning her head slightly, she had a perfect view of Hudson’s sharp, chiseled profile.

A trace of infatuation flashed in her eyes. She leaned her body closer to him and spoke in a soft, sweet voice.

“Hudson, you really didn’t need to make this trip. It was just a minor issue; I could have handled it.”

A red light approached ahead. Hudson hit the brakes and turned his head to look directly at Amara.
