“I don’t care.”

Jade rejected the offer without a second thought.

“I’ll stay here for a week as you want. But the second that week is up, you give me those ash

Seeing her so resolute, Hudson issued a dark warning.

“Jade, don’t think you’re leaving after a week. Even after I give you the ashes, you’re staying. hold onto them as long as it takes for you to learn how to behave.”

“I’ll stay.”

Jade’s voice was soft, almost resigned, the edge of resistance fading from her tone.

“Don’t worry. I’m not going anywhere.”

A look of satisfaction crossed Hudson’s face. He figured she was finally too exhausted to keep fighting and was ready to settle down with him.

“Stay here tonight. Don’t bother going back for your things at the apartment. I’ll buy you everything new.”

“I need to go back.”

Jade’s hands, hanging at her sides, tightened into fists.

“There are important things I can’t leave behind.”

Hudson made a rare offer.

“Want me to come with you?”

“No.”

“Then I’ll have Kevin take Rosa to help you pack?”

“I said no!” Jade growled through gritted teeth. She leaned her back against the wall, her voice turning weary.

“I just want to pack my own things. Can you stop sending people to shadow me for once? You have my mother’s ashes. Do you really think I’d run? Do I even dare?”

Considering she was pregnant and it might be hard for her to move things, Hudson had wanted Rosa to help. But seeing how much she hated the idea, he didn’t push it.

Hudson looked up.

“Did you hire them?”

“I’ve been waiting for news! I thought something happened to you. Can you video call now?”

“Not really.” A faint cough came from the other end. Jade’s heart squeezed, her voice thick with tears.

Jade wiped her eyes and sat silently on the bed. She closed her eyes, thinking through everything that had happened recently. Finally, as if she had reached a final decision, she opened her eyes and called Jewell Ford.

“Jewell, remember you said your classmate is the head of OB-GYN in Riverdale? Can you he me book an abortion for next week?”

“An abortion?!”
