Chapter 153 Desperate Measures
He spoke with his chin tilted up, clearly expecting Jade to be grateful or to throw herself into his arms like she used to.
But the reaction he wanted never came. Jade gave the room a cold, dismissive glance- even seeing the furniture-before glaring at him.
“Give me back my mother’s ashes!”
The expression on Hudson’s face cooled instantly.
“After all the effort I put into this house, don’t you have even a shred of—”
“Give me back my mother’s ashes!”
Jade cut him off with a sharp scream. Hudson stood his ground, unmoving.
“Fine. If you won’t give them to me, I’ll find them myself!”
Jade began a frantic, aimless search through the villa. As she tried to brush past Hudson, he caught her around the waist.
“Jade-”
Slap!
Jade broke free, spun around, and delivered a stinging blow to his face. Her eyes were bloodshot, her teeth gritted in fury.
“It wasn’t enough to threaten me? My mother is dead, and you’re still using her to control me? You won’t even let her rest in peace! Are you even human?!”
Hudson pressed his tongue against the inside of his cheek, tasting blood. Faint red marks began to bloom on his pale face.
He looked at Jade, his expression turning dark and brooding. He let out a cold laugh and stepped toward her.
Jade’s lips trembled as she stumbled backward.
When her back hit the wall, Hudson grabbed her chin.
“Didn’t you say I was ‘nothing special’? You wanted a divorce, you wanted to hide the baby, you
even wanted to go abroad…”
“Heh-”
Hudson let out a dark chuckle, his grip on her chin tightening.
“Is there a single thing you’ve managed to do without my permission?”
“That’s because you’re a despicable coward!”
Jade screamed, tears streaming down her face and splashing onto Hudson’s hand. The scalding sensation hit him like a physical blow, a momentary pang of guilt stabbing at his heart.
He loosened his grip and held her by the shoulders, his voice dropping to a forced, patient warmth.
“Jade, I didn’t want it to be like this. You forced my hand.”
Seeing the tears covering her porcelain face, her nose and eyes red from crying, he reached out and wiped her cheek with the back of his hand.
“Just be a good girl. Come home, be Mrs. Walter again, and I promise nothing like this will ever happen again.”
Jade gripped his sleeves with all her strength.
“Hudson, I’m begging you. Give my mother back to me. She belongs in the cemetery… let her rest there. Isn’t it enough that you’re tormenting me? Why drag her into this? Please… please stop messing with her…”
Hudson took a deep breath and let it out slowly.
Jade was shaking from head to toe, a torrent of unvented emotion rising in her throat, making her feel physically ill.
“I saw this baby as my only real family, but you’re using it to destroy me. You’re hurting everyone around me and desecrating my mother’s grave. Everyone I care about is suffering because this child exists. Do you really think I want it to be born? I hate this baby as much as I hate you!”
“Don’t say things you don’t mean.”
Hudson couldn’t bear to look into her hate-filled eyes. He stepped closer and pulled her into a tight embrace, patting her trembling back.
“I told you, once you come back, I’ll give you everything you want. All the things making you miserable right now will stop.”
Jade stayed silent for a long time before she finally made up her mind.
“Fine. I’ll come back.”
She wiped her tears and pushed herself out of his arms.
“But only if you give me back my mother’s ashes! And you have to stop targeting Professor Mitchell and Julian Foster!”
Hudson agreed instantly.
“Fine.”
Jade held out her hand.
“My mother. Give her to me!”
Hudson pulled out his phone and showed her a photo.
“You stay here for one week, then you get the ashes. I’ve already found a better cemetery for her, a place with great views where she’ll be much more comfortable.”
