From His Ex-Wife to the World's Most Sought-After Restorer (Jade and Hudson) novel Chapter 152

Chapter 152 The Ransom of Ashes

“Jade, get your *ss back to the Walter mansion and take care of that baby! Stop acting like a spoiled brat!”

Jade was at the hospital delivering some stew to Professor Mitchell when Cindy’s call came through.

The sudden verbal assault made Jade’s face turn instantly cold.

“What did the Walters give you this time?”

Cindy let out a smug laugh.

“Your mother’s ashes are worth quite a bit. We gave them to Hudson in exchange for a villa in the Riverside District and a million dollars. If you want them back, go see him. Otherwise, she’s going into the harbor.”

Her mother’s ashes… sold to Hudson for cash?

Jade gripped her phone so hard her knuckles turned white. Her vision blurred, dark spots dancing before her eyes.

She bit her tongue hard, the sharp pain helping her claw back a shred of sanity.

“My mother is in the cemetery. You think I’d fall for such a pathetic lie?”

“Believe it or not.”.

Cindy’s tone was dripping with triumph.

“We’ve already got the villa. If your mother ends up at the bottom of the sea, don’t say I didn’t warn you!”

After her little gloat, Cindy hung up.

Jade felt a chill run through her entire body. She left the stew for Edward and rushed out of the hospital to the cemetery to check.

The sun was bright today, but seeing her mother’s disturbed grave made Jade feel like she had been dropped into an ice cellar.

Her throat tightened, her nose stung, and her eyes burned with hot tears.

She sniffed, forcing the tears back, and called the cemetery office, her voice raspy.

“When… when were my mother’s ashes taken?”

The clerk replied.

“Mr. Merchant called this morning. He said he found a better plot for his wife and wanted th ashes moved. He came by, signed the papers, and took them. Is there a problem, Ms. Merchant?”

The ashes…

Michael really had taken them.

When her mother was alive, she worked herself to the bone to help Michael build his company to what it was today.

And now, even in death, she was being used as a pawn.

Choosing the wrong man really did mean a lifetime of misery and no peace even in the grave!

Despite the sun overhead, Jade felt no warmth. It felt like something was dragging her into an abyss, and no matter how she struggled, she couldn’t break free.

“Ms. Merchant? Are you still there?”

The clerk’s confused voice brought her back. It took forever for her to force a sound from her dry throat.

“No. Thank you.”

She hung up and drove straight to the Walter Group.
