From His Ex-Wife to the World's Most Sought-After Restorer (Jade and Hudson) novel Chapter 155

Chapter 155 A Clean Slate

Jade’s lips curled into a bitter, weary smile.

“I… I’ve been backed into a corner. There’s no other way.”

Jade told Jewell everything that had happened lately.

By the time she finished, Jewell was fuming.

“How can Hudson be such a prick? You lived together for three years! You don’t even treat an enemy that badly!”

Jade gently stroked her abdomen. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw the baby clothes she’d bought. Her fingers trembled as she picked them up, and she finally broke down, sobbing into her knees.

“Jewell, what do I do? I feel like… like I can’t keep anything.”

The feeling of powerlessness and helplessness had become her constant companion lately.

But never had it been this direct, this clear-clear enough to pierce her heart.

As a mother, she couldn’t even protect the child in her womb.

It was as tragic as it was pathetic.

Caught up in Jade’s grief, Jewell couldn’t help but start crying with her.

“How can you say that? You still have me! Jade, I told you, I’ll always be by your side.”

Despite her words, Jewell felt a crushing sense of inadequacy. Her best friend was going through hell, and she couldn’t do a thing.

The more she thought about it, the more it hurt.

Muffled sobs echoed through the small apartment.

After a long time, the crying finally stopped.

Jade sniffed and wiped her eyes with a tissue.

“Jewell, thanks for crying with me. I feel a bit better now.”

“Pfft-”

Jewell let out a watery laugh.

“Who says ‘thank you’ for crying together? You’re being way too formal.”

Jade managed a faint smile, but it didn’t reach her eyes.

After a few seconds of silence, Jewell asked:

“Are you sure about this?”

Jade’s fingers tightened on the baby clothes for a second. The next moment, she stood up, went to the kitchen, found a lighter, and set the clothes on fire.

She watched the flames lick the fabric until it turned to ash, burning away her last path of retreat.

“I’m sure,” she said, her voice muffled. “I won’t hesitate again.”

“Fine!”

Jewell was one hundred percent behind her friend’s decision.

“I’ll message her right now.”

After sending the text, she added:

Correcting the mistake, wiping the tears, and moving on-it was a necessary part of life.

She couldn’t, and shouldn’t, stay broken.

Hudson and the Walter family’s cruelty wouldn’t stop at using the child to control her for a moment.

If this child’s existence meant everyone who cared for her would suffer, and she would live in agony, then it was better if the child was never born.

As evening fell, the setting sun was as red as blood.

Jade arrived at The Grandview Estate with her suitcase.

The beautiful villa complex was already starting to light up.

A soft golden glow blanketed the area, a display of pure wealth and luxury. But to Jade, it was no different from a gilded cage.

Taking a deep breath, she stepped inside.

The thought of spending the next week living with Hudson made her skin crawl and her stomach churn.

“Ugh-”

The moment she crossed the threshold, she started retching.

In an instant, the nausea became overwhelming.

She covered her mouth and ran straight for the bathroom to throw up.

The sound from the bathroom was violent. Hudson heard it from his study and came out. He stood at the door, watching her. He wanted to help, but he realized he had no experience with this and had no idea what to do, so he called for Rosa.

“Rosa! Jade is sick. What do we do?”
