From Friday to Saturday, it was safe to say that no one in the Mercer family slept.
That included Bella. She couldn't sleep either.
She had borrowed money and was consumed with thoughts of how to avoid losing it.
She had borrowed the money to invest with the intention of making a profit. She had never considered a loss, much less the possibility of losing everything.
But given the current situation and the public backlash she saw online, Bella had a premonition that she was going to lose money.
Moreover, the internet was filled with insults aimed at her mother, calling her a homewrecker who stole another woman's husband and kicked his children out of their own home.
The online vitriol grew louder, and when Sabrina saw it herself, her heart pounded with fear.
She had never imagined that nearly all the fire would be directed at her.
Now, everyone was cursing her name, and the way Martin kept looking like he wanted to say something but held back offered her no comfort.
It made Sabrina worry. Was Martin thinking of throwing her under the bus this time?
If that happened, wouldn’t she be finished?
At the breakfast table, despite everyone being hungry, no one had an appetite.
After forcing down a glass of milk, Bella said, “I’m not hungry. I’m going upstairs.”
She didn’t want to get involved in the Mercer family’s problems. It was up to the father and his two sons to figure out a solution; it had nothing to do with her.
“This isn’t just the conclusion our PR department came to; any clear-eyed person can see how this needs to be handled. You can’t be so biased.
“What’s more, the very survival of the company is at stake this time.”
Sabrina grew anxious. “The company’s survival? Martin, has it really gotten that serious?”
Martin saw that Sabrina had been awake all night, with dark circles under her eyes. Combined with her aggrieved and pained expression, he felt a surge of pity that made it impossible for him to push her forward to take the blame.
“Of course not. Don’t listen to these two brats spouting nonsense. I’m still here for the company. How could I let you go out and apologize to that defiant girl? Don’t worry, the company will be fine. You just need to rest and take care of yourself.
“Didn’t the doctor say you need a few months of proper rest to fully recover?”
Brandon couldn’t listen to another word. He slammed his fork down on the table. “Dad, do you have any shame at all?”
