Leonard had considered every angle, so Lillian naturally had no objections.
“Okay, let’s get away for the weekend, where no one can find us.”
Even Leonard knew the Mercer family’s playbook by heart, so Lillian, of course, was even more familiar with it.
Whenever they couldn’t handle something and didn’t want to suffer any losses, they would try to pin all the consequences on her. They treated her like a perpetual scapegoat, a tactic they tried almost every single time without fail.
It was obvious that Lillian had already refused them several times in the past, yet they still didn’t seem to get it.
Lillian could only offer a cold smile.
The two of them packed their bags and took a helicopter to a scenic, secluded natural retreat, where they set up camp and settled in to relax.
The bodyguards they brought were handpicked, each with extensive wilderness survival experience.
They took excellent care of the couple in every respect.
Even Ethan was impressed. “Sir, how did you find this place? It’s not far from Northwyn, just a two-hour flight. This is like a hidden paradise. Spending a weekend here is a completely different kind of luxury.”
“You’ve got a lot to say for someone who isn’t working overtime. Maybe I should have just made you work.”
“Come on, sir. When it comes to overtime, you’ve got plenty of people for that, right? Why are you always thinking of me?
“Besides, isn’t it best to have me by your side? Is there anyone who can look after you better than I can?”
Of course, Leonard knew that Ethan worked hard and that giving him a chance to relax was important.
It was just that the guy was such a chatterbox.
Fortunately, Lillian didn’t seem to mind him.
As they were talking, Lillian walked over. She had rarely had the chance to have fun like this growing up.
