“See that? He was trying to call the police. How can someone be so shameless? Does he have no memory of the disgusting things he’s done?”
Stephen’s eyes were sharp; he had seen the attempt.
Brandon was mortified. “Everyone, please calm down. We’re family. Can’t we just talk things out?”
Stephen scoffed. “Family? What family? He has no relationship with Aunt Eleanor anymore. After the divorce, they’re strangers.
“And you, Mr. Brandon Mercer, since you chose to stand by his side and abandon your own mother and sister, don’t you dare try to pull the family card with us.
“The Lancaster family can’t presume to be related to the likes of you.
“Lillian, let’s go.
“Why waste our breath on these people?”
The others also chimed in, condemning Martin.
At this point, Martin wished he could just throw them all out.
“Who wants to be related to you? Savages…” He forced out the words, his mouth aching. He sucked in a sharp breath of cold air.
The Lancasters glared at him.
Brandon, however, was growing anxious. He knew the Lancasters were a powerful family.
The Mercer family was not in a good position right now. Wouldn’t it be a good thing to have another influential family as allies?
Moreover, the Lancasters were very fond of Lillian and managed many of his mother’s jewelry businesses.
At a critical moment, all of that could be used to help the Mercer family.
Brandon knew Martin was completely under Sabrina and her daughter’s thumb and wouldn’t consider the consequences, but he had to.
With the Mercer Group’s majority shareholder about to change, if he didn’t consider these things and try to get the Lancasters on his side, he’d just end up working for Bella.
He hadn’t said much when Lillian was kicked out of the house, but now, Brandon couldn’t hold back any longer.
Martin, on the other hand, had never paid any attention to the Lancasters for years. Even his marriage to Eleanor Lancaster had been his mother’s choice.
He already had someone else in his heart and had only agreed because his mother liked her and Eleanor was indeed beautiful.
After getting married, he never interacted with the Lancasters, so naturally, he had no idea what their situation was.
That was why he was so dismissive of them.
He didn't know them, didn't care about them, and looked down on them for being less refined than Northwyn's elite—a bit rough and uncultured. He felt they were not his kind of people, and certainly not as powerful as the Mercer family.
Lillian said, “I’ve made myself clear. Since we’ve cut ties, it’s best you don’t come looking for trouble with me again.
“Otherwise, as you can see, I’m not without people to back me up.”
Lillian’s words infuriated Martin even more. He felt the sting on his beaten face burn hotter.
“You ungrateful thing. You’ll get what’s coming to you. You harmed my child, and I won’t let this go so easily. Not unless you accept the punishment you deserve.”
