Sebastian, of course, had no idea that as he was defending Bella, his father wasn't just reconsidering his approval of her—he was writing off Sebastian as well.
Since becoming the heir to the Blake Group, Sebastian hadn't made any major mistakes.
He wasn't incompetent; on the contrary, he was exceptionally capable.
But Old Mr. Blake didn't see a bright future for him. He was capable but short-sighted. He could innovate but lacked real nerve. His thinking was narrow, his perspective limited—these were all fatal flaws for Sebastian.
Perhaps that was why he had overlooked all the important qualities Lillian possessed.
And why he had chosen Bella over her.
A CEO who lacks vision can only take a company so far.
Old Mr. Blake found himself thinking more and more of his son who had died young. If his best son hadn't passed away, Sebastian would never have been in this position.
The old man's gaze grew sharp as he stared at him, as if he wanted to unleash all his pent-up frustration.
But Sebastian, completely oblivious to his father's scrutiny, continued on the topic his mother had started.
"Dad, let's eat. Bella even had the chef prepare two of your favorite dishes. They'll be out soon."
Mrs. Blake closed her eyes for a moment. After a lifetime together, she knew exactly what that look on her husband's face meant.
And Sebastian not only failed to notice it but was still speaking up for Bella.
As expected, before all the dishes had even been served, the old man put down his utensils and announced he was full.
The two dishes Bella had 'specially' ordered for him hadn't even arrived.
As they were leaving, the old man took his wife's hand, called their driver over, and left without letting Sebastian see them off.
When Bella finally snapped out of it, she realized that the gifts she had presented so proudly to the old couple had all been left behind.
