The chefs among Martha's crew had been sent for special training by the old matriarch years ago. They were not only masters of various regional cuisines but could also handle several international styles, including Michelin-star-level dishes, with ease.
They had also learned some traditional recipes directly from the old matriarch herself and executed them perfectly. People with their skills could easily find high-paying jobs anywhere, yet Bella had managed to run them all off.
While the Mercer family dinner was fraught with tension over the food, another dinner was taking place elsewhere.
Meanwhile, Lillian's dinner table was laden with delicious food.
She was off her special diet now and found the regular meals incredibly appetizing.
Leonard was still on his prescribed diet, but he couldn't help but look on with envy whenever he ate with Lillian, occasionally sneaking a few bites of her food.
"From now on, I'll be paying the salaries for the staff that came over from the Mercer family.
To be fair, the staff here at Halfridge Villas are all carefully selected and extensively trained.
But the old guard from the Mercer family has its own strengths.
Lillian, your grandmother is truly amazing."
Leonard knew that this group had been trained by the Mercer matriarch, and their skills were undeniable.
Lillian said, "So they'll be earning double salaries now. The pay from my grandmother comes from a dedicated account in her name."
Leonard responded without hesitation, "Double it is. Their character alone makes it worth it.
Your grandmother trained them, and in the end, their loyalty is to you. Lillian, I'm happy to reward them for that loyalty."
Lillian smiled and didn't refuse.
At this point, she wouldn't refuse anything Leonard offered her.
Even if he offered to pluck the stars from the sky, she would accept it with a smile.
Has the Blake family really fallen this far?
Even the Mercers were a step below us in status. But at least the Mercer matriarch and the young lady of the Lancaster family came from good families. The children they raised were naturally capable and accomplished.
They were worthy of the Blake family name. This Bella… the more I talk about it, the angrier I get.
I really don't want to go to this dinner."
The old man said, turning back to sit down, refusing to get up.
Mrs. Blake grew anxious. "Dear, you promised Sebastian. If you don't go, it would be a slap in the face to him.
Come on, let's just treat it as a family get-together. Try not to let your emotions get the best of you."
"I can't stand the sight of Bella. Can't we just fire her from the company and replace her with someone else?"
