Though they were from a small town and hadn't seen much of the world, they could tell that these men in matching uniforms, with their tough and disciplined demeanor, were professional bodyguards.
They all looked incredibly fierce.
Previously, they had only ever faced security guards, mostly men in their forties or fifties, whom they barely regarded.
But facing this group of well-trained men in their twenties and thirties, even they felt a flicker of fear.
Emma stepped forward and reiterated, "Our Ms. Mercer said, if you have something to say, raise your hand and wait to be called on."
Celia's mother was the first to raise her hand, speaking immediately. "I'm Candy's mother. My daughter works for you, so what about her salary? What about the money? We see her working for you, but where's the money?"
Lillian leaned slightly closer to the microphone. "Of course she gets paid. But what does that have to do with you?"
Celia's father started to speak without raising his hand. The moment he opened his mouth, Lillian slapped the table.
From the very beginning, Lillian had dominated them with her sheer presence.
Celia's father quickly shot his hand up and then spoke. "What do you mean it has nothing to do with us? We're her parents! Her money is our money. She's supposed to give it to us."
Lillian asked, "And who says her money is supposed to be yours?"
Celia's father replied, "It's been this way for thousands of years, hasn't it? As her parents, we gave birth to her, we raised her. Now that she's grown up and earning money, she's supposed to support us."
Lillian replied, "Oh, 'thousands of years'? Who is that? Why don't you have this 'thousands of years' person stand up so I can meet them?"
One of the relatives, seeing that Celia's parents were no match for Lillian, quietly whispered for them to bring up the law.
Celia's mother raised her hand again. "The law! It's the law!"
Lillian said, "Then bring me a court order. Whatever amount the court orders Celia to pay you each month, she will pay.
