She instantly stopped the thought.
Sighing, she poured Bella another glass of wine. "Bella, some things are hard to change after so many years. If there was a real opportunity, why wouldn't I take it?"
Bella took another drink. She must have been drinking too quickly, because she was getting drunk even faster.
"Ma'am, where there's a will, there's a way. Look at how my mom handles Martin—she has him wrapped around her finger, doesn't she? And isn't Martin the chairman of the Mercer Group, too? With things like this, how do you know if you can do it if you don't even try?"
Debbie, however, wasn't drunk, so she wasn't about to start talking nonsense.
"Bella, dear, this is a difficult situation for me. If it wasn't, of course I'd want to be the legitimate Mrs. Blake. Who would want their own son to call another woman 'mother'?"
Bella said, "Debbie, as long as you have the will, I'll help you."
She put down her wine glass, patted her chest, and said with assurance, "Don't worry, I have experience with this. I've seen a lot being with my mother all these years. At a critical moment, my mother can help too. As long as you're willing, we can team up. What's so hard about taking that old woman down? Whether Mr. Blake is willing or not, Debbie, this is what he owes you. Think about it, was it easy for you to raise Sebastian all by yourself for so many years? It was so hard. If you don't make a move now, aren't you just letting that old woman get away with everything for free? Her own son has been dead for years, yet not only does she refuse to give up her position as the matriarch of the Blake family, she's also taken the son you worked so hard to raise. Are you really willing to lose your son? Do you want to be sent away again in the future? Didn't you say you haven't seen Sebastian in years over there?"
Debbie took Bella's hand. "Bella, you're such a good kid. You understand how I feel so well. If only Sebastian were half as considerate as you. I should have prayed for a girl back then. They say a daughter is a mother's comfort, and it's really true."
Debbie reached out and stroked Bella's cheek, and the drunken Bella was incredibly compliant.
Even though she was a bit drunk, Bella knew in her heart that she must have gotten through to Debbie.
