Martha's eyes lit up. "Miss Lillian, does this mean you already have a plan?"
Lillian said, "The day I was released, I went home. No one was there to pick me up. When I arrived, I found that my home was already someone else's. The person who destroyed my mother was living there. I started planning right then and there. More than a decade ago, when my mother's head was injured, her blood splattered all over me. I'll never forget that day. Sabrina stood to the side, smiling mockingly. I knew then, even though she didn't say a word, that her invisible hands had grievously harmed my mother."
As she spoke, Lillian looked at her mother in the distance. A permanent, irreversible brain injury. A mental illness that would never heal. Her life had been ruined by Martin Mercer.
"Miss Lillian, your father was a fool. The woman the matriarch chose for him was the best. He betrayed the best person he had and brought some nightclub tramp home, then threw you, the granddaughter the matriarch so carefully raised, out of the house. I really don't know what the matriarch will think when she wakes up and sees this mess. How angry she'll be!"
Lillian's gaze remained fixed on the distance. Yes, how would her grandmother react upon waking to see what the Mercer family had become? It might be better for her to sleep a little longer, to not wake up at all.
Composing herself, Lillian went upstairs. Ethan had already arranged for the butler to settle the servants who came from the Mercer family. Compared to the staff and medical personnel at Halfridge Villas, the Mercer servants weren't numerous. With a little organization, everyone was assigned new duties.
Once the servants were settled, Lillian went upstairs to Leonard's side.
"Is everyone settled in?"
His pale face always broke into a smile for Lillian.
She nodded and sat down beside him. "I didn't expect all of them to choose to leave the Mercer family."
