Martha stared at Lillian for a long time, completely surprised. "Miss Lillian, so this is the 'good life' you're living after leaving the Mercer family?"
Lillian let out a laugh. "It is, Martha. This is my good life. Now you don't have to worry about me not having enough money to pay your salaries, right?"
Martha was still a little uncertain. "Miss Lillian, that Bella Ward said your company was in trouble and you were broke. What's that all about?"
Lillian replied, "Perhaps thinking that brings her some comfort, some satisfaction. But they won't be satisfied for long. My company has made some new breakthroughs, and we'll be making an announcement soon. There should be quite a show to watch then."
Martha pressed, "So, you're really okay, Miss Lillian? You're not going to jail, and the company is fine, right?"
"Of course, everything's fine. Don't worry."
Ethan chimed in, "Not only is your Miss Lillian fine, but she's also rich. Very, very rich. Do you understand?"
Martha looked at Lillian. Very, very rich? That wasn't what she had heard. The rumor was that some other man was supporting Lillian, paying for everything. Was that just a rumor, completely untrue?
"Go see Grandmother," Lillian said. "She's here at Halfridge Villas too, though we don't know when she'll wake up."
