“Ms. Mercer, hold on, can you please explain what’s going on? I’m a little confused right now.”
Lillian replied, “It’s fine if you’re confused now. You’ll understand later.
By the way, what did you tell Leonard? Don’t let him worry. Call him right now and let him know I’m okay. Tell him everything is under my control.
I don’t know how his health is right now, so don’t go scaring him with your nonsense.”
Ethan was bewildered. He had just reported the facts. How was that nonsense? And scaring him… oh, right. Leonard’s health had been a concern lately; he really couldn’t handle this kind of shock. With that thought, Ethan wasted no time and immediately pulled out his phone to call Leonard.
The call went through, but no one answered.
Ethan tried again, but the phone was off.
Lillian watched from the side, a clear hint of doubt in her eyes.
Ethan couldn’t stand the pressure. “Maybe… maybe his phone isn’t with him, or it could be out of battery. I’ll try the house landline.”
He dialed again. The call connected, and a housekeeper answered.
Ethan put the call on speaker. “Where’s Mr. Prescott? Why didn’t he answer his phone?”
From the other end, the housekeeper’s voice came through. “Mr. Prescott just got on a plane. It’s probably already taken off by now…”
Lillian and Ethan stared at each other.
For a while now, Lillian had been wondering when Leonard would return.
