As Lillian pondered the escalating drama, her curiosity got the better of her.
Sabrina and Bella had met up in the afternoon.
Bella had originally planned to spend her free time with Debbie, but Debbie didn't need her company and had gone off to play cards on her own.
Finding herself with nothing to do, Bella called her mother, and the two went shopping together.
She wanted to find the right opportunity to have her mother and Debbie meet, maybe for dinner.
A meeting would require a gift, of course, and the mother-daughter duo spent a long time discussing what to buy.
Sabrina held up the bank card Martin had given her. "Bella, we'll use this card for our shopping today," she said happily.
"This must be Mr. Mercer's personal savings, right?" Bella remarked. "After all these years together, he's never given you his bank card. This is quite generous of him."
For years, Martin had transferred money to Sabrina annually.
At first, it was for their living expenses and to cover Bella's upbringing and education, all of which Martin paid for.
Later, even after Bella graduated, Martin continued the annual payments, letting Sabrina spend the extra money on whatever she liked.
In the past, this had been enough for Sabrina, but gradually, it became less and less sufficient, let alone enough to save anything.
She was barely able to put any money aside.
Martin also frequently bought her gifts, which helped her maintain her lifestyle.
To keep up her persona, Sabrina had never actively asked for more all these years.
But things were different now. Sabrina had leveled up; she now had Martin's bank card.
