In Lillian’s eyes, her past marriage was now a shameful one.
How could it be anything but?
During their marriage, Sebastian had personally sent her to prison for Bella’s sake. Two years had taken too much from her.
Meanwhile, Sebastian and Bella couldn’t hold back any longer. Their marriage had been a secret, so all the outside world saw was how devoted and serious Sebastian and Bella were about each other.
She was truly an outsider.
Professor Avery nodded. “It’s good that you’re divorced. Now you can focus on your career, which is a wonderful thing.
Lillian, you’ve wasted too much time. That time was so precious.
Over the past few years, every time I thought about it, my heart ached.”
Victor couldn’t stand to hear any more of this.
Damn it, this world was just too unfair.
How could the gap between people be so vast?
“Come on, Professor Avery, stop going on about what a pity it is or how heartbreaking it is. You’re not leaving any room for us regular folks to survive. She was already leagues ahead of us, and now you keep bringing up how she was away from the industry for several years.
She didn’t work or keep up with the field for years, yet when she comes back, she’s still better than us. How are we supposed to keep our heads up in this industry?”
Hearing Victor’s complaint, Professor Avery let out a hearty laugh. “Hahaha… Victor, you’re a benchmark in this industry yourself. Don’t sell yourself short. I know for a fact that you’re very talented.”
Victor pressed, “So, I’m talented. How do I compare to your prized student?”
Professor Avery glanced at Lillian, then back at Victor. “Victor, my boy, what are you trying to prove? Why would you even compare yourself to her?”
