A maid led him to the back garden, where Brandon saw Lillian sitting inside the glass conservatory from a distance.

Even from afar, he could tell something was off about her.

“Mr. Mercer, just follow this path straight ahead,” the maid instructed.

Brandon pushed his thoughts aside and nodded. “Alright.”

He walked to the sunroom in the garden, where someone was waiting. “Mr. Mercer, please wait here for a moment. We need to disinfect you.”

“Disinfect me?” Brandon asked.

The attendant nodded but offered no explanation. Someone else approached and sprayed him with a cold mist. Only after the mist cleared did another person open the sunroom door for him, and Brandon finally stepped inside.

Throughout the entire process, he could see Lillian sitting in the sunroom, and she could see him.

Once inside, Brandon frowned and demanded, “Lillian, what’s all this about? Have you started to despise me this much?”

“If that’s what you want to think, I don’t have a problem with it,” Lillian replied. “But let’s get to the point. Have you raised the money to buy all of Mom’s shares in the Mercer Group?”

Brandon fell silent. He couldn’t very well tell her that while Sebastian had agreed to lend him the money, it hadn’t arrived yet.

“Lillian, how did you end up living here?”
