Eleven Years All to the Wrong Man novel Chapter 83

Jason kept his head down, one hand on his shoulder blade. He didn't know what to do, and for a hesitant moment, it looked like he was actually considering kneeling before the man named Mr. Grant.

"Mr. Grant."

Just as Jason was about to bend his knees, Emma stepped up beside him and placed a hand on his arm to stop him.

She stood calmly before the drunken man. "You said yourself that Jason is just an employee. So why are you harassing him? If you truly have something to discuss with Evan, you should go to him directly instead of throwing your weight around here."

Emma's voice was even and devoid of any emotion as she spoke.

Mr. Grant's face flashed with embarrassment. Mindful of her status, he forced a laugh and agreed, "Yes, yes, Mrs. Cooper is right. I'm only so worked up because Mr. Cooper is too busy to see me! If Mrs. Cooper would be willing to help, to pass a message to Mr. Cooper, I, Bill Grant, would be eternally grateful!"

Emma ignored his plea and turned to Jason, who was still clutching his shoulder. "Are you okay?" she asked in a steady tone.

Jason shot Emma a grateful look and shook his head gently. "Thank you, Mrs. Cooper. I'm fine."

"Good. As long as you're all right. You can go take care of your other tasks."

Jason hesitated, glancing at Mr. Grant, who showed no sign of leaving. "But what about..."

Emma gave a simple instruction. "Since Mr. Cooper is busy, take Mr. Grant to the waiting room for now."

She then turned back to the portly man. "You don't have a problem with that, do you, Mr. Grant?"

"No problem, no problem at all! Whatever Mrs. Cooper says!"
