Eleven Years All to the Wrong Man novel Chapter 57

Since Evan’s multiple traffic violations had not caused a major accident or involved drunk driving, the penalties were limited to having his license suspended, points deducted, and a fine.

Once Emma paid the fine and signed the paperwork, she was free to take him home.

The entire time, Evan followed behind her like a lost puppy, not daring to say a word, just staring at her with anxious, pleading eyes.

The station was full of officers and other people. Thanks to the morning’s headlines, many of them recognized Evan instantly, and some discreetly started recording with their phones.

Emma, however, remained perfectly composed. Before leaving the station, she put on the sunglasses and mask she had prepared.

“Let’s go.”

She turned and glanced at Evan.

He seemed to snap out of a daze, nodding quickly. He opened his mouth as if to say something, but Emma didn’t give him the chance and walked straight out the door.

“They’re coming out! They’re coming out!”

“Quick! Over here! They’re coming out!”

The moment the couple stepped out of the station, a swarm of reporters descended upon the entrance, thrusting a forest of microphones in their faces.

“Mr. Cooper, can you explain this morning’s story from Velvet Scoop Magazine about you and your new flame at the hospital last night?”

“Mr. Cooper, your company’s stock has plummeted because of these back-to-back scandals. Do you have any comment?”

“Mrs. Cooper, what was going through your mind when you saw the news this morning? What prompted you to still come down to the police station to bail out your husband?”
