“But Velvet Scoop Magazine already has photos of Mr. Cooper with another woman at the hospital last night. Do you have any comment on that?”
Emma replied, “I have no comment. I trust my husband.”
“There are rumors that your marriage is on the rocks, and that a similar situation occurred two years ago. It’s said that you even caught him in the act yourself. Is that true?”
Emma said, “If you’re calling them rumors, then you tell me—are they true or false?”
With that, she let out a soft laugh. She neither confirmed nor denied it, instead tossing the question back at the reporter.
Despite the mask and sunglasses hiding her face, the reporters could feel the effortless grace and composure of someone used to being in charge in her every move.
She showed no sign of embarrassment or the anger of betrayal. An outsider passing by would never have guessed she was being interviewed about her husband’s affair.
All of Emma’s responses were incredibly poised, leaving the reporters with nothing to latch onto.
Defeated, they turned their microphones back to Evan.
“Mr. Cooper, do you have anything to say about the news that broke this morning?”
Evan responded coldly, “Nothing to say. My lawyer will be in contact with Velvet Scoop Magazine.”
A cameraman in the back muttered, “Jeez, what a jerk. An adulterer, and he has the nerve to talk about his lawyer contacting the press… a real piece of work. He’s not nearly as composed as his wife.”
The cameraman’s voice was just loud enough for everyone to hear.
Evan, of course, heard it too. His head snapped in the man’s direction, his icy glare landing on the one who had been muttering under his breath.
