And so, before the heat from the morning’s news about his secret lover could fade, the afternoon brought new headlines about him being summoned to the police station for reckless driving.
At Evanma Group, several of the older shareholders nearly had a stroke after seeing the string of negative press surrounding their CEO.
Emma received the call from the police station just as she was leaving the hospital, still wearing Nathan’s jacket.
She had been so preoccupied when she left home that morning that she hadn’t even checked the weather, simply grabbing a thin coat on her way out.
Nathan had told her that the temperature would drop significantly at night and, worried she would catch a cold and run a fever, had given her his own jacket.
Emma had felt a little shy as she took it from him.
She was twenty-seven, but in her entire life, the only men she had close contact with were her father and Evan.
This was the first time she had ever worn a piece of clothing from another man.
“Thank you, Mr. Allen. I’ll make sure to have it cleaned before I return it.”
With a stern expression, Nathan had replied stiffly, “It’s fine.” He then turned back to his desk and lowered his gaze to a file, giving off the air of being extremely busy.
Seeing this, Emma didn’t press the matter. She awkwardly left his office. It wasn’t until she stepped out of the hospital and the biting wind hit her flushed cheeks that she finally came back to her senses.
“…Hello, ma’am. That’s the situation. Since you are listed as his primary contact, we need you to come down to the station to assist with our investigation. Thank you.”
After listening to the officer on the phone, Emma stood silently in front of the hospital entrance for a long while before finally responding, “Alright.”
Hillside Precinct.
