"Mrs. Alvarez, I'm fine. I just had a nightmare. I just woke up."
Emma's hand, still trembling, held onto Mrs. Alvarez's.
Just a minute before Mrs. Alvarez had knocked, she had been trapped in a terrifying nightmare. In the dream, Emma heard a voice from below her feet, calling out, "Mama, Mama..."
The voice was tender and innocent, like that of a small child.
But when Emma looked down, she saw that the thing calling her 'Mama' was a bloody, formless mass of flesh.
Horrified, she tried to run, but the mass seemed to be stuck to her, asking in a tearful, choked voice, "Mama, are you abandoning me again?"
Hearing this, Emma, who had been about to flee, suddenly froze. Her eyes widened as she stared at the bloody mass at her feet. It gradually transformed into a cute, chubby little boy. He squatted by her feet, covering his face, seemingly crying his heart out.
As he cried, he kept murmuring, "Mama doesn't want her baby, Mama doesn't want her baby..."
In the dream, tears instantly welled up in Emma's eyes. She stared, stunned, at the little bundle at her feet. She didn't know why, but she slowly knelt down and gently hugged him. "No, Mama wants her baby. Mama wants..."
The little boy looked up then. He had a pair of black eyes, just like Emma's. He broke into a pure, innocent smile.
"Mama, I came back to find you. This time, don't abandon me, okay?"
The little boy reached out a finger and gently poked Emma's cheek. His eyes, red from crying, now held a smile. His voice was still thick with tears, but the sadness was gone.
