Evan was about to leave, but his hand was caught by a pair of small, warm, and smooth hands.
With red-rimmed eyes, Melissa looked at him pitifully, her voice choked with emotion. "Mr. Cooper, you haven't visited me in so long. You said you would come see me after you were done with your work, but it's been half a month..."
That day, after Jason had paid the hospital bills, Melissa had insisted on going back to the company with him, saying she wanted to see Evan. Jason couldn't reach his boss by phone and didn't know what he wanted, but he couldn't dissuade Melissa, so he had reluctantly brought her along.
When Evan finished his meeting and saw Melissa sitting in his office, he felt both panicked and pleasantly surprised.
Emma was out with his assistant at the time, shopping for a dress, and he was terrified they would return at any moment. He had to quickly send Melissa away, vaguely promising to visit her once his busy period was over.
But that busy period... he calculated the time, and it had indeed been almost half a month since he'd last seen her.
Evan stood still as the girl threw herself into his arms, sobbing. "I missed you so much, Mr. Cooper..."

It was Nathan's turn for the night shift.
In the middle of the night, a patient in the hematology department with leukemia and lymphoma suddenly took a turn for the worse.
As the doctor on duty, Nathan, along with the nurses, rushed the patient to the oncology department on the 21st floor.
Because of the emergency, the on-call doctor and nurses in oncology hadn't been notified yet. So when Nathan arrived on the 21st floor, there was no one there to meet them. In the empty corridor, he immediately spotted the man and woman standing face to face not far away.
Nathan prided himself on his memory.
He had a knack for remembering everything he saw, whether it was in a book or a person's face.
So, the moment he saw Evan, Nathan immediately recognized him as the man he had seen with Emma that day.
