Eleven Years All to the Wrong Man novel Chapter 114

“Wait!” Emma cried out.

Evan stopped and turned to look at her, a slight frown on his face. “What is it?”

By then, Emma had scrambled out of bed and planted herself in front of him. “What are you doing?” she demanded, tilting her head up at him defiantly.

“...Using the bathroom,” Evan replied, looking confused but answering nonetheless.

Emma blocked his path, pointing toward the door. “Go use one of the other rooms. I need to use this one.”

Without waiting for his reaction, she darted past him into the bathroom and slid the glass door shut.

Evan was left standing there, momentarily stunned. After a second, he muttered, “So weird,” and turned to leave the room.

Inside the bathroom, Emma quickly gathered the pregnancy test and its box. She couldn’t find a good place to hide them. Throwing them in the trash was too risky; Evan might see them when he showered.

Left with no choice, she opened the cabinet under the sink, moved aside a stack of spare towels and toothpaste, and tucked the test deep into the back.

Once that was done, Emma opened the door and went downstairs. Mrs. Alvarez was already setting the table with the last of the dishes.

The dinner was exceptionally light. On the table were stir-fried beef with bell peppers, shrimp with celery, steamed egg with sea bass, and a soup.

Both Evan and Emma were from the south, but Riverside Millford was in the southwest. People there weren't extreme spice-eaters, but they certainly didn't eat food this bland.
