Eleven Years All to the Wrong Man novel Chapter 115

The meal ended on a sour note for both of them.

Evan, in particular, had only a little soup before getting up from the table and heading upstairs.

Mrs. Alvarez came to the table and saw that the food had barely been touched. She couldn’t help but whisper to Emma, “Ma’am, I suppose the food wasn’t to Mr. Cooper’s liking? It’s my fault. I was so focused on making it light that I forgot about his tastes...”

“It’s fine, Mrs. Alvarez. He’s on a diet lately, so he’s not eating much at night anyway.”

After reassuring Mrs. Alvarez, Emma, despite her lack of appetite, forced herself to finish a bowl of steamed egg and drink a bowl of chicken soup.

Things were different now. She had a little one inside her who needed nutrients, so no matter what, she had to eat more.

Just then, the doorbell rang.

“Who could that be?”

Emma glanced toward the front door, wondering who would visit at this hour, as Mrs. Alvarez went to open it.

“Oh, Jason!”

Seeing Jason standing at the door, slightly out of breath, Mrs. Alvarez’s face lit up with surprise. “What brings you here? It’s dinnertime. Are you here to drop off documents for Mr. Cooper?”

Jason scratched his head, explaining awkwardly, “No, it’s... Mr. Cooper has a business trip coming up. I’m here to help him pack his bags.”

“Oh, I see... Come in, come in.”

Mrs. Alvarez held the door open. Jason walked in quickly, hesitating about whether to change his shoes when he saw Emma still at the dining table, drinking her soup.

“Ma’am!”

Emma nodded. “Come on in. Just slip on some shoe covers.”
