“Alright, if you say I was following you, then I was following you. So, aren't you going to explain your relationship with the young lady behind you, Mr. Cooper?”
This wasn't the first time Evan had cheated, nor was it the first time Emma had caught him.
Three months ago, during their last fight, his affair was with the goddaughter of a business partner. How much time had passed since then? Now he’d moved on to… a college girl?
Emma scanned Melissa from head to toe.
She looked to be in her early twenties, dressed simply in an off-brand white dress and a pair of sneakers that were washed until they were slightly faded. Her hair was worn down plainly, the ends a bit frizzy and dry. Her family background… was probably average.
Being scrutinized like that made Melissa even more uncomfortable. She hid further behind Evan, as if trying to escape Emma’s gaze.
Evan, naturally, had noticed the subtle movements between the two women. He took a step forward, turning to the side to completely shield the person behind him.
“What do I need to explain?”
He looked down at Emma coldly, his tone flat and devoid of any emotion.
Evan felt he really didn't need to explain anything. After all, things had just started with this girl, and nothing had happened. The most forward thing he'd done was accidentally brush her hand.
Even just that touch had made the girl blush fiercely.
He’d been with so many women and had seen his share of innocent types, but he’d never met one quite this pure.
Although she had long given up any hope for Evan, Emma still felt a chill in her heart at his attitude. So now, he didn't even want to bother explaining things to her anymore. Was it because it was unnecessary, or did he simply not care?
“Fine. Okay.”
Emma fought back the tears welling up, nodding slightly. “Then you and your new flame have fun, Mr. Cooper. I won't disturb you.”
