Emma's desire for material things wasn't particularly strong. She didn't know much about the clothes she wore, the bags she carried, or the things she used, nor was she interested in how much they cost.

If she liked something, she'd use it. If she didn't, she'd have Jason take it away.

Halfway home, Emma took a detour to a newly opened mall.

Even though the clothes and jewelry at home were already overflowing, she had no desire to go back early today. The house was too cold, too empty. She just wanted to go somewhere with people.

The Panamera pulled up to the mall entrance, where a valet took it to the underground garage. The luxury mall was air-conditioned year-round, always kept at a perfect 78 degrees.

Emma swore she had only intended to browse. She never would have imagined running into Evan here.

Perhaps because it was a Tuesday, a weekday, the mall was practically empty. That must have been why she spotted him in an instant—inside the Hermès store, helping a strange woman try on a bag.

Unfortunately, at the exact moment she saw Evan, he saw her too.

Emma froze, unsure whether to go or stay.

She dug her nails into her palm, cursing her bad luck.

If Evan hadn't seen her, she could have just pretended she hadn't seen him and walked away. But now...

The tall, imposing man walked towards her, his first words being, "What are you doing here?"

He offered no explanation, just a simple, accusatory question.

Emma looked up at him, her gaze cool, then shifted past his broad frame to look behind him.

"Aren't you going to introduce us?"

Emma raised an eyebrow at the woman following behind Evan.

"Mr. Cooper..."
