On the drive back to campus, Andres pulled up the text Nancy had sent him and casually handed his phone to Maeve.
Reading the pathetic words 'If you want to catch them in the act, now is the time,' Maeve was completely speechless.
"So you saw this and immediately believed it?" she asked.
Right in front of her, Andres blocked Nancy's new number and deleted the so-called 'evidence' of her affair.
"Don't treat your husband like an idiot," he said smoothly. "She actually thought one picture was going to tear us apart. Her brain must be completely hollow."
This whole charade solidified something for Andres: the Nancy Grover of today was wildly different from the woman he remembered. Whatever her personality used to be didn't matter anymore. The woman she had become was utterly repulsive to him.
Since Andres was being entirely reasonable, Maeve decided to come clean about why Benjamin had wanted to see her.
"Benjamin found out about the partner summit at The Grand Horizon Hotel."
"He still hasn't given up on forcing his way in?" Andres asked.
"With that much money on the line, of course he hasn't," Maeve replied.
"You agreed to meet him. Does that mean you're giving him a chance?"
Maeve neither confirmed nor denied it. "I'll decide after the Grover Group's press conference."
Andres's instincts told him Maeve was planning something massive to follow the Grovers' big event. As for what exactly, she hadn't said a word.
In truth, Maeve never shared her personal battles with him. They had been married for quite a while, and she essentially knew everything about his life. But his understanding of her barely scratched the surface.
He still didn't know why her actual birthday wasn't the June first date on her official files. He didn't know why her mother had vanished without a trace all those years ago. He didn't know how she was connected to the powerful Reed family in Gotham. And he definitely didn't know her endgame in this relentless war against the Grover family.
