This was the first time in his life he had ever held her hand, and it would also be the last.
When another man held her hand, it would be to put a ring on her finger. But when he held it, it was to draw a drop of blood.
Still, this single drop of blood would allow her to start a new life.
It meant something different to each of them.
"I can personally prove that Martin Doyle is not your father. With that, I'll have no regrets."
How could he have no regrets?
The summer wind rustled through the treetops. You were reading under a tree, and the hand I never dared to take became a lifetime of regret.
"Thank you."
She didn't understand his regret, thinking he was simply standing up for justice.
Patrick addressed all the reporters, "The test samples have been collected, so we can begin the analysis. You are all welcome to follow me inside and broadcast the entire process."
The reporters swarmed in after Patrick.
Martin Doyle instantly panicked.
He hadn't agreed to a paternity test. What right did they have to perform one?
"What are you doing? We're not doing a paternity test! We're not doing it!"
Martin Doyle shouted, but no one listened to him.
Some reporters, taking advantage of the crowd, deliberately bumped into him.
Martin was jostled around in the crowd like a pinball.
"What the hell? Are you all blind? Trying to kill me?"
His shouts were met with more shoving.
When the crowd passed, Martin Doyle was left bruised and swollen.
