Terence sounded so pathetic when he spoke.
The once handsome and decisive Terence looked like he was about to fall apart.
To make matters worse, he left right after he said it. Natalie, still undressed, couldn't even try to stop him.
“No, Terence, you can’t say that. If you say that, won't everyone know that… that something happened between us last night?”
Natalie spoke frantically, but Terence seemed not to hear her, wheeling himself away with grim determination.
He left Natalie in the bed, feeling as if she’d been struck by lightning.
Good heavens, what had she done?
She wanted to cry. How could she have lost control like that?
What was she supposed to do now?

Natalie realized the clothes she’d worn yesterday were gone, and her stomach dropped.
Could it be that while she was still asleep, Terence had let the cleaning staff in to tidy up, and they'd taken her clothes away?
Did that mean someone already knew what had happened?
It wasn't that Natalie was being paranoid. On her way downstairs, she ran into a few of the manor's staff, and every one of them was smiling at her with a knowing, mischievous glint in their eyes.
They might as well have asked her outright if she'd had a good time last night.
Natalie felt like crying but couldn't. She just wanted to hide.
She decided to skip breakfast and head straight to the institute.
But she was cut off by Mrs. Lockwood.
That son of hers! How could he keep something this huge from her?
He had slept with Natalie and was still acting all calm, pretending nothing had happened.
He was such an actor!
Seeing Mrs. Lockwood’s thrilled and excited expression, and hearing her shout, a terrible thought occurred to Natalie. It seemed Mrs. Lockwood hadn’t known. Had she just… confessed without even being asked?
Natalie froze on the spot.
Mrs. Lockwood grabbed Natalie’s hand, gushing, “Natalie, the fact that something like that happened means you see something in my son. That’s a wonderful thing! Why are you apologizing to me? You have no idea how happy I am. I never thought you two would move so fast. This is just fantastic!”
By now, Natalie was speechless. She cursed her stupid brain and stupid mouth.
“Natalie, my son being paralyzed… it must have been difficult for you. I need to go make you some restorative soup to help you get your strength back, for your energy… and your legs.”
Natalie was at a loss for words.
