Terence sounded so pathetic when he spoke.
The once handsome and decisive Terence looked like he was about to fall apart.
To make matters worse, he left right after he said it. Natalie, still undressed, couldn't even try to stop him.
“No, Terence, you can’t say that. If you say that, won't everyone know that… that something happened between us last night?”
Natalie spoke frantically, but Terence seemed not to hear her, wheeling himself away with grim determination.
He left Natalie in the bed, feeling as if she’d been struck by lightning.
Good heavens, what had she done?
She wanted to cry. How could she have lost control like that?
What was she supposed to do now?
***
Natalie realized the clothes she’d worn yesterday were gone, and her stomach dropped.
Could it be that while she was still asleep, Terence had let the cleaning staff in to tidy up, and they'd taken her clothes away?
Did that mean someone already knew what had happened?
It wasn't that Natalie was being paranoid. On her way downstairs, she ran into a few of the manor's staff, and every one of them was smiling at her with a knowing, mischievous glint in their eyes.
They might as well have asked her outright if she'd had a good time last night.
Natalie felt like crying but couldn't. She just wanted to hide.
She decided to skip breakfast and head straight to the institute.
But she was cut off by Mrs. Lockwood.
