“Dad, if Mom's not feeling well, of course I'll go with you.”
Marie got in the car with Elaine and Richard and headed to the hospital.
Her expression was dark, and she was on edge the entire way.
“Mom, I'll go to the front desk and register you. What's wrong?”
Marie was already trying to figure out how she could escape.
Richard said, “No need. We already have an appointment.”
“An appointment? I'll go with you.”
Marie followed Elaine and Richard, and sure enough, they ended up at the DNA testing center.
Her face fell.
She feigned confusion. “Dad, I thought Mom wasn't feeling well. Why are we at a DNA testing center?”
Elaine looked at Marie and said, “I'm not feeling well because someone told me… you're not my biological daughter.”
Elaine's stare sent a chill down Marie's spine.
Marie pretended to be shocked. “Mom, that's ridiculous. How could I not be your daughter? Who said that? Was it Natalie? She's relentless in her attempts to ruin me.”
Richard said, “Just to be safe, we should still do a DNA test.”
Marie said angrily, “Mom, Dad, just because of something Natalie said, you want to do a DNA test with me? If word gets out, what will people think of me?”
Could it be that their son, Marcus, had met his end because he discovered Marie wasn't their biological daughter? If so, Marie was far more terrifying than they could have imagined.
If their son truly knew Marie wasn't his sister, why didn't he tell them? Or perhaps he never got the chance. The thought was so painful they could hardly breathe. All they wanted now was an answer.
Hearing Elaine's words, Marie's heart pounded in her chest.
She was right. If they found out she wasn't their daughter, they would know Marcus's death was connected to her.
Her position as president of the Ward Group, her identity as Miss Ward, everything she had—it would all be gone.
Marie cried out hysterically, “How can you let Natalie manipulate you again and again? I am your biological daughter! Natalie is the one who caused my brother's death. She's telling these lies because she's afraid our family will retaliate!”
Just then, a staff member came out. “Here are your DNA test results.”
