At the Cross family home, Victoria’s hands trembled with excitement as she opened Marie’s safe. The room was instantly filled with the glitter of jewels.
“Wow! Oh, wow! It’s all so beautiful!” Victoria gasped, her face contorting with glee.
“Look at this diamond ring! It’s massive!” she exclaimed. “A flawless diamond this size is so rare! That wretched woman had such a nice ring already, but she still made us buy her another one. She just had to take advantage of every little thing.”
“And this sapphire necklace is gorgeous! That woman really knew how to live, buying so much jewelry for herself.”
Victoria held the necklace up to her neck. Such expensive things should have been gifted to her, the mother-in-law. Marie always gave her second-rate items while keeping the best for herself.
But now that Marie was in jail, her jewelry was Victoria's jewelry.
Look at this magnificent emerald bracelet, how regal! And this diamond necklace, the one Marie had spent a fortune on at an auction.
Just as Victoria was about to fasten the expensive necklace around her neck, a group of men burst into the room.
“Who are you people?” Victoria demanded angrily. “How dare you barge into our home?”
“Are you Victoria Cross? We’re from asset collections. This house is being repossessed, and you are not to touch anything inside.”
“What? This is our house! On what grounds are you repossessing it? If you don’t leave right now, I’ll call the police! Emerald! Emerald, call the police!”
“Don’t bother shouting. We’ve already sent all the house staff away.”
The news that the staff was gone made Victoria even more nervous. Her voice trembled slightly.
“Who are you? You’re robbers, aren’t you? I’m warning you to leave now, or I’ll call the police.”
