Hanley grew even more upset and asked the lawyer anxiously, “How is my auntie doing now? Is she okay in there?”
The lawyer replied, “That place is for criminals. The conditions are certainly not good. Besides, Ms. Ward has lived a pampered life since she was a child. How could she possibly endure such harsh conditions? She hasn't slept or eaten for days. She’s extremely thin and looks like she won't last until the sentencing.”
“No, that can’t happen. My auntie has to be okay. You’re a lawyer, you have to save her.”
The lawyer’s words made Hanley extremely anxious.
His aunt was suffering in there.
The lawyer said, “I will do my utmost to defend Ms. Ward and get her released, but our opponent is Terence, so the chances of winning aren't very high. You all need to be mentally prepared for that.”
Victoria felt like all their money had gone down the drain.
She cried out in anguish, “Marie is still so young, how can her life be ruined in there?”
How could the money she spent, and the assets of the Ward Group, all go to waste?
Hanley said urgently, “Grandma, don’t be sad. I will save my auntie. I’ll make Terence let her go.”
Victoria wiped her tears and said, “The way your aunt has treated you like her own son for the past five years has been worth it. This is a critical moment. We absolutely cannot let her be sentenced. We have to stick to the story about Terence. That’s the only bargaining chip we have to make him release your aunt.”
“I understand, Grandma.”
“When your mommy gets here, no matter what she says, you must insist that Terence pushed you.”
Hanley nodded, his eyes filled with determination.
When Natalie arrived, she was radiating an icy aura.
“You’re the one who spread the news, aren’t you?”
