Natalie found it hard to believe. For five years, Darren had made her wait on Marie hand and foot, as if she were a queen. Natalie knew exactly where she stood in his eyes.
Was it really possible that he would kick Marie out of the Cross family just because of something she had said?
Mrs. Lockwood noticed Natalie staring at her phone with a troubled expression. “Who’s that from? You look completely absorbed.”
Natalie snapped back to reality. “Oh, it’s nothing important. Just some spam.” She slipped the phone back into her pocket, with no intention of replying. Whether he had kicked Marie out or not, what did it have to do with her?
“Is this herb steeped enough?” Mrs. Lockwood asked, peering into the pot. They were preparing medicine for Terence and Liana. Natalie usually handled it, but with her hand injured, Mrs. Lockwood had stepped in to help.
“That’s perfect. You can add it in now.”
“Okay. And that one needs to be ground, right? I’ll do it.”
“My hand is actually fine. I can manage the medicine.”
“Absolutely not. An injury like that takes time to heal. You just sit tight and tell me what to do. See? These two hands are idle, just waiting for your orders,” Mrs. Lockwood said with a playful smile.
For so many years, Natalie had been friendless. No matter where she went, Martin Doyle would find a way to humiliate her, and everyone else would just laugh. No one wanted to be her friend. Despite the age gap, she and Mrs. Lockwood went shopping, bought clothes, and had fun together like best friends. It felt so good to finally have a friend.
Just then, the butler approached. He bowed slightly and said, “Ma’am, there’s a visitor.”
Mrs. Lockwood frowned. She wasn’t expecting any guests. “A visitor? I wasn’t aware of anyone coming today. Who is it?”
