He would have made a mistake. But thankfully, he’d been saved from it.
“You’re thankful nothing happened? So for the past five years, it was all just me? You care so much about Natalie now… what does that make me?”
“You will always be my sister-in-law. Even if you remarry in the future, I will always respect you as such. If you ever need the Cross family’s help, we will do everything we can.” Darren’s voice was soft, but his words were firm enough to make her heart tremble.
“So you’re really determined to kick me out, aren’t you?”
“I just want you to have a better life.”
“Darren, you’d better think this through!” Marie screamed hysterically. “Without the Ward Group’s support, can the Cross Group even stay afloat? Are you really willing to lose everything for Natalie?”
She was threatening him. How dare he try to discard her? Had he forgotten his place? Without her family’s support, the Cross Group would collapse.
“If I can get her back by losing everything now, I’m willing.”
He was tired of carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders. After his brother’s unexpected death, he had been thrust into the role of CEO. All these years, he had dedicated himself to protecting the Cross Group, fulfilling his brother’s last wish.
He had poured all his energy into the company, assuming Natalie’s love was unconditional, that she would always be there.
Only after losing her did he realize the depth of his mistake. If he could trade the Cross Group to have her back, he would do it in a heartbeat.
He believed his brother would understand.
Marie could hardly believe her ears. “Darren, I never thought I’d hear you say something like that. You’d give up the Cross Group for Natalie? You’ve completely lost your mind.”
“I’ve wronged you today. I will make it up to you in the future.”
