Liana nodded stubbornly, her small hands clenched into tight fists.
They didn't want Natalie. They just wanted to ride her coattails now that she was famous.
Lucas's words struck a chord with the other children, reminding them of what had happened.
"Hanley, how could you slander your mom on TV like that? You did it to clear your auntie's name as a homewrecker, didn't you?"
"Hanley, how could you hurt your mother so badly? My mom told me that every mother goes through a lot to have us, and we have to be good to them. But you hurt your mom. I don't want to be your classmate anymore."
"He doesn't even like his own mom and wants someone else's. I've never seen such a dumb kid."
"Yeah, his mom is so amazing, but he called her a useless housewife. He must not be very smart. I don't like being friends with dumb people."
"I don't want to be his friend either."
Seeing so many of his classmates suddenly turn against him, Hanley panicked. He had always been aloof and looked down on them, considering himself superior. But now that so many of them were saying they hated him and didn't want to play with him, he felt a surge of fear. He didn't want to be an outcast.
"You don't understand anything!" Hanley said frantically. "I did what I did for the good of the Cross Group. Even my mom thought my decision was right because it helped our company get through a crisis. Now that the misunderstanding is over and the crisis has passed, my mom is going to get back together with my dad. My own mother doesn't hold it against me, so why are you all so hung up on it?"
