"Yeah, can you invite me over? I want to see if Natalie's hand is better," another child chimed in. The kids were all eagerly vying for an invitation to the Lockwood estate to check on Natalie.
Hanley suddenly spoke up, his voice dripping with condescension. "Why would you ask them about my mother's injury? My mom isn't at their house. She's not there now, and she certainly won't be in the future."
His words confused the other children.
They all knew that Natalie was currently Lucas's family doctor and tutor and that she was living at their house. They also knew that their father really liked her, and she might even become Lucas and Liana's new mom.
Lucas's expression turned cold. "Natalie's not at your house, so she must be at ours. Don't forget the stupid things you and your father did!"
"My mom and I had a little misunderstanding before, and that's why she divorced my dad," Hanley retorted defiantly. "But they're about to get back together. Why would my mom still be at your house?"
An astonished murmur went through the classroom. Hanley's parents were getting back together? That was a shocking twist.
Lucas scoffed. "Weren't you the one who liked your auntie so much? Didn't you say you wanted her to be your new mom? You called Natalie a useless housewife. So why do you suddenly want her and your dad to reconcile?
But it doesn't matter what you think. Natalie isn't going to pick up trash she's already thrown out!"
"I'm my mother's son. My dad and I are her only real family. You two are nothing to her."
