Lucas translated Liana’s gestures. “My sister says she’s writing the final problem from that competition.”
The crowd gathered around, studying the board with confused expressions. To them, the problem was incomprehensible. Was it real or fake?
Marie froze. She had only bought the championship to make her resume more impressive, wanting to surpass the legacy of the late socialite she so admired.
“Liana, you’re just a kindergartener. Stop scribbling nonsense that no one can understand. Don’t seek attention like this. Get out of here.”
Natalie stepped forward protectively. “A kindergartener can remember the problem because she’s interested in math,” she said, her eyes cold. “Yet you, the gold medalist, the only person in Asia to solve it, have no memory of it whatsoever. Isn’t that ridiculous?”
The onlookers stared at the equation, completely bewildered.
Hanley said angrily, “Liana just wrote down random symbols. Forget it being the final problem from the competition—I bet there isn’t even a solution to that mess. How can there be an answer to something completely made up?”
“It must be gibberish. I can’t make heads or tails of it.”
“I don’t get it either. It’s probably just a kid scribbling.”
Natalie listened to the doubts without a word. Instead, she took the chalk from Liana’s hand and began writing the solution on the blackboard. Her movements were fluid and effortless, without a hint of hesitation. With her actions, she proved that Liana’s problem was real.
“There,” she said, finishing. “This is the solution. Does that prove Liana wasn’t just scribbling? She’s a brilliant child.”
