"Okay." Isabel patted his head.

Oliver watched from the side, a pang of sadness in his heart, but he didn't throw a tantrum.

He gave Edmund the gift he'd brought.

He just didn't say anything.

Isabel led him over to Mr. and Mrs. Ashford. "Our first meeting was so rushed, and then with everything that happened with me, I know the holidays weren't easy. We never really had a chance to talk."

"This boy is my biological son. He's made mistakes, and he's admitted to them now. While I haven't completely forgiven him, he and I are inseparable. He's the only child I'll ever have. So, I was hoping you would accept him as your grandson."

Oliver's head snapped up, his face filled with overwhelming surprise.

He immediately dropped to his knees before Mr. and Mrs. Ashford, bowing his head. "Grandpa, Grandma, I'm sorry I couldn't wish you a happy New Year or pay my respects then. I'd like to make up for it now. I'm not asking for anything. I know I did wrong, and I'll do my best from now on to make you like me."

Mr. and Mrs. Ashford were stunned by his sudden action.

It took them a few seconds to react before they helped him up.

They owed their daughter so much. They wouldn't do anything she didn't want, and they disliked anyone she disliked.

Oliver nodded repeatedly. "I never even told Dad that you're Mom's parents. I'm on Mom's side."

He'd almost forgotten about that. Julian leaned close to Isabel and said, "Since he followed you here, why don't we…"

Isabel listened to his plan and nodded. "You arrange it. We'll play along."

Evelyn was the most enthusiastic. "I can't wait to see this."

Julian and Isabel went out into the yard.

They made no effort to lower their voices.

"The Ashford family's daughter was never found, so now you're their daughter. Once you're added to the family records, the 'Isabel' identity can be nullified. Your so-called father is as good as dead anyway. I asked around; a friend can handle it for you. If your identity as Isabel is deemed illegitimate, then the marriage can be voided."

Isabel nodded. "I'll leave it to you. You arrange it. I can get it done while I'm here and then head back."

"Alright. We'll rest tonight, and tomorrow we'll go to the Ashford estate to discuss the specifics."

"Okay. That way, I can marry you sooner. I'm so sick of this cooling-off period, and I don't trust him to keep his word."

Julian stroked her hair. "Don't worry, your husband's got this."

Isabel smiled and nodded. "Yes. With you here, I feel at ease."
