Isabel's expression grew heavy. "Are there any other options?"
"None that I'm aware of at the moment."
Dr. Lawson paused. "You can make the decision, or you can discuss it with Mr. Blackwell."
Isabel walked out of the office. Adrian had already been sent back to his room.
He sensed something was wrong the moment she walked in.
"You don't need to feel any burden. This has nothing to do with you. If you want a divorce, I'll call my lawyer over right now to handle it."
"You don't have to take care of me. I brought this on myself."
"Maybe this is heaven's punishment for my absurd idea of trading one life for another."
Isabel sat down in the chair by his bed and said flatly, "This isn't how you have a conversation or a discussion. You're still just making arrangements."
Adrian was at a loss for words.
Isabel was silent for a moment before asking, "There are two options. We can do the surgery and take a gamble, or do nothing and stay like this. But the final result..."
"Is paralysis either way?"
Isabel nodded. Adrian gave a wry smile. "Then there's no point in another surgery. I have enough scars as it is. No need for one more. It's quite painful."
Isabel's heart grew heavy.
Adrian asked, trying to sound casual, "So, what are you thinking now? Can you tell me?"
Isabel thought for a moment. "I can try acupuncture on you. See if it can stimulate some movement and get the shrapnel to a location where surgery is possible."
"But you know I'm not a professional doctor. I can't be sure this method will work."
Adrian said, "I was asking about the divorce. What are you thinking about that?"
Isabel replied, "What's this? I stop pushing you, and now you're starting to push me?"
Adrian understood and didn't ask again. He just said, "I trust you. Go ahead and treat me."
For the next several weeks, Isabel began treating Adrian with acupuncture.
