"Why are you out of the hospital?"

Adrian said, "I called you, but you didn't answer. Then I left you a message, so you can't be angry with me for acting on my own."

"It's your award ceremony. I couldn't possibly miss it."

Isabel studied him for a long moment, making him squirm, before she finally spoke. "This whole groveling act of yours is kind of pathetic."

Adrian reached out and gently tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear.

"Whatever you want, just tell me. When we get home, I'll make it happen."

Isabel smiled. "You think I'd go home with you that easily? Just because we're not getting a divorce doesn't mean I've completely forgiven you. I was only taking care of you recently because I wanted to focus on my research. And I should thank you, too. You've done a lot for my career."

"It was my pleasure. You can use me for your experiments anytime you want, as long as you leave me with just enough life to love you."

"So cheesy."

Adrian chuckled. "Didn't you used to want me to say things like that?"

"Actually, you've always been drawn to the arrogant side of me. You like a challenge because you admire strength. If I were weak, you wouldn't have given me a second glance."

Isabel said, "That's not entirely true. It was mostly because you're handsome."

A large group of them went to a restaurant, where the drinks and toasts continued into the early hours of the morning.

Because of her hand, Isabel was able to avoid drinking, but as her husband, Adrian had to drink in her place.
