After I Stopped Loving Him novel Chapter 189

The sun sank into the sea, and the city slipped quietly into darkness.

Ethan pulled up to his house. As he stepped out of the car, Susan hurried out to meet him. He didn’t even think before asking, “Is Isabella back yet?”

“Not yet,” Susan replied.

Ethan’s brow furrowed. “She hasn’t been home all day?”

“No, she hasn’t come back.”

His face turned stony, and he pressed his lips into a thin line. Without another word, he headed inside.

The driver leaned closer to Susan and spoke in a low voice. “Ethan was at the hospital for most of the day. I’m not sure what for, but he picked up some medication and took it himself.”

Susan looked at him, surprised. “Ethan went to the hospital on his own? And stayed there all day?”

“I didn’t dare ask. He looked upset when he left.”

“Do you think Ethan and Isabella fought again?” the driver whispered.

Susan let out a sigh. “I’m not really sure. I’ll go check on him.”

The driver nudged her. “You should call Isabella and tell her to come home. If Ethan’s mad, she’s the only one who can calm him down.” Or at least let her take the heat, so nobody else had to.

Susan didn’t need the reminder. As she followed Ethan inside, she was already calling Isabella. The phone rang several times before Isabella finally picked up.

“Isabella, when are you coming home?”

Instead of answering, Isabella shot back, “Why? What’s going on?”

“Ethan’s back.”

“So? What does that have to do with me? He’s got two legs. He can come and go as he wants. Why should I care?”

Isabella shook her head. “You’re driving, remember?”

Laura took a bite and immediately fanned her mouth. “So spicy!”

Isabella laughed. “That’s what makes it good.”

Neither of them could really handle too much heat, but they still went for it, even though it usually left them with blisters afterward.

Then Isabella’s phone started buzzing again. She glanced at the screen and frowned. “Ethan. Seriously, can’t I just finish a meal without being interrupted?”

She looked at Laura. “We agreed on our wedding night—only act like a couple in front of family, and live our own lives the rest of the time. He stays out of my business, I stay out of his.”

But Ethan never really stuck to that deal.

Isabella popped a piece of beef into her mouth before finally picking up the call. The second she answered, Ethan’s cold, angry voice blasted through the phone. “Isabella, are you planning to disappear? It’s already dark and you’re still not home!”
