Isabella handed Barbara the gift she had brought. Barbara smiled and accepted it after the usual polite back-and-forth.
“I had the legal team draft two copies of the contract,” Barbara said. “I’ll have someone bring them up. Take a look, and if everything’s good, we can sign today.”
Isabella and Laura exchanged glances. This was exactly what they expected from Barbara. She was the type to have everything handled professionally. The contracts they had brought were ones Laura had put together and printed herself. They just couldn’t compare to what a real legal department would prepare.
“Sounds perfect,” they both said.
Barbara made a quick call. A few minutes later, someone knocked on the VIP room door. Barbara got up to answer. A legal team member handed her the contracts, then left right away without even stepping inside.
Barbara came back over and handed a contract to each of them. “These were drafted by our legal team, exactly as I requested. Please look them over.”
Isabella and Laura took their time reading. Barbara’s contract was way more detailed than Laura’s version. It covered a lot of things Laura hadn’t even considered, though the main points were about the same.
“Isabella, did you bring your own contract?” Barbara asked. “We can compare them and see if anything needs changing. If there’s anything you’re not happy with, we can talk it out and have the legal team print a new version.”
“Barbara, do you mind if I ask for a few extra copies of this contract?” Isabella said, suddenly thinking about the deal she still needed to do with Linda. She wanted to keep a template for future use. If she had time later, she could type it up and save it on her computer. Right now, since they were just starting their business and didn’t have a legal team, this would have to do.
Barbara knew Isabella still had to sign with Linda, so she agreed right away.
She picked up the phone again and asked for ten more copies to be printed and delivered. Then she called her secretary at headquarters and asked her to prepare two generous gifts for Isabella and Laura to take home with them.
