With that, Grace headed upstairs.
The evening walk with the children was a daily ritual for the three of them. Nina should have been downstairs by now, ready to go, but there was no sign of her.
Arriving at Janina's door, Grace knocked softly. "Nina, are you ready? Your dad and I are about to take the kids out. Do you want to come with us?"
Hearing the voice outside, Janina replied weakly, "I'll pass. You guys go ahead. I'm just going to rest."
"What's wrong? Are you not feeling well? Mom's coming in to check on you." Seeing no objection, Grace pushed the door open.
She found Janina lying in bed, looking completely drained of energy.
Grace was alarmed and immediately reached out to feel her forehead.
"Are you sick? I noticed you barely ate anything at dinner."
Thankfully, her forehead wasn't hot.
"I just feel weak, no energy. It's nothing, probably just didn't get enough sleep. I pulled an all-nighter yesterday working on some design sketches," Janina said, letting out a yawn.
She had been busy with DL Design lately, rushing to finish sketches. Her next goal was to launch her own independent brand as soon as possible.
In short, she was focused on making money.
Seeing how tired her daughter looked, Grace assumed it was just exhaustion.
"Alright then, you get some rest. Don't work too hard," she advised. "Your dad and I will take the babies out for a bit."
Grace tucked the comforter around her daughter and adjusted the air conditioning to a comfortable temperature before leaving with Ethan.
However, in the middle of the night, Janina was suddenly overcome with a deep chill.
She woke up freezing.
She turned off the air conditioner, pulled the covers tighter, and tried to go back to sleep.
But it was no use. She was getting colder and colder.
It was the middle of summer, and the AC was off. There was no reason to be this cold.
Realizing she might be sick, she glanced at the time. It was two in the morning. A trip to the hospital would have to wait until morning.
