Abandoned by All I Took It All Back novel Chapter 237

Janina obediently leaned against the nurse.

She wasn't pretending; the pain was real. Her forehead was covered in a fine layer of sweat.

Her water had broken, and she knew the babies couldn't wait much longer. She had to get out of here, now.

Janina glanced down at her feet and let out a small gasp. "My shoelace is untied," she said, looking at the nurse. "Could you tie it for me? It would be terrible if I tripped."

The nurse rolled her eyes, annoyed by the hassle, but she bent down anyway, though she wasn't happy about it.

In the instant the nurse stooped over, her fingers touching the shoelace, a cold light flashed in Janina's eyes. She lifted her right hand and brought it down in a sharp blow to the back of the nurse's neck.

The nurse collapsed to the ground without a sound.

Fear made Janina's palms sweat. She didn't have time to wonder if the nurse was just unconscious or if she had hit her too hard. She turned and ran.

Holding her pregnant belly, she couldn't run fast, but she moved in a quick, shuffling jog. The pain grew worse, but she didn't dare stop. She had to get out of New Vista Medical Center. If the doctor caught her, she would be a lamb to the slaughter.

She was currently on the sixth floor. Fearing she would be recognized, she didn't take the elevator and headed for the stairs instead.

Fifth floor, fourth floor, third floor...

Janina counted the floors as she descended, sweat pouring down her face.

Suddenly, a violent contraction made her legs give out, and she nearly tumbled down the stairs. She gripped the handrail tightly, the feeling of pressure in her lower abdomen growing stronger.

Janina bit her lip, praying silently: "Babies, just hold on a little longer. Please be okay..."

"She can't have gotten far. Let's split up and search," a voice echoed from the floor above.

Janina felt her heart leap into her throat.

She was on the second floor now. She quickly looked for a place to hide. After a few steps, she saw a small room at the corner.

Taking a deep breath, Janina pushed the door open and slipped inside.

The small space was cluttered with mops and buckets.

She pressed her body against the back of the door, clamping her hands over her mouth, not daring to make a sound.
