Chapter 187

Then, Stephen suddenly felt a flicker of suspicion. He stared at Christian’s face, then frowned and asked, “Right… why are you so good to Daniella? Even if it’s because of years of siblinghood, shouldn’t you still be angry after knowing she deceived your own brother?”
Christian’s face turned cold. “What are you implying?”
“Do you like Daniella?” Abigail asked him.
Christian’s expression twisted almost instantly.
Stephen looked shocked, then immediately revealed a look of disgust as though seeing a pervert. “She’s lived with us for so long, even if she’s not our biological sister, we grew up together-”
“Shut up!” Christian shouted, unable to hold it back.
“Did Abigail just hit a nerve?” Stephen instinctively pulled Abigail two steps back. “He actually fell in love with the girl he grew up with!”
Stephen let out a sharp cry and dragged Abigail upstairs. On the way, he said to her, “Go hide in your room right now. If that pervert sets his eyes on you, it’ll be too terrifying.”
Abigail tried to shake him off, but he practically shoved her into her room in one go. Then he rushed up to the third floor yelling, “Dad! Mom! Grandpa! Christian is a pervert!”
Inside the room, Abigail could hear his panicked shouting and felt utterly speechless. That had just been her guess, but Stephen had already announced it like the whole world knew.
Soon enough, the entire Gibson family gathered in the living room–Wyatt even called Abigail downstairs.
Daniella was forced to the living room and curled up, saying timidly, “I didn’t know he had feelings for me-” She started sobbing before she could finish her sentence.
“I never liked Daniella that way! It’s Stephen and Abigail slandering us with their wild suspicions!” Christian hurried to explain.
“You can’t trust anything Daniella says. As for you-” Stephen gave him a distrusting look. “Maybe you’re hiding things for her too.”
Christian took a deep breath and said, “No matter how bad I am, I’d never do something like that to my own sister-”
“Daniella is adopted, not blood–related. Since you say you don’t even like her, then why did you keep giving her money even when all the subsidiary companies were collapsing?” Stephen stared at him with disbelief. Wyatt sat cold–faced on the sofa.
Gabriel also found it baffling. Stephen had already begun showing kindness to Abigail, so why couldn’t Christian? He clearly knew all the awful things Daniella had done, yet continued to protect her relentlessly.
“Dani asks for that much money every month and you didn’t suspect a thing?” Bianca couldn’t help but speak up.
After being called out by Abigail, Bianca also decided to treat Daniella with more caution. But at the same time, she feared that if she treated Abigail too well, Daniella’s situation would become even more awkward.
Christian’s face was stiff. “I didn’t lie. I’m not some beast.”
“Then explain why you keep giving her so much money every month. What secret are you two hiding?” Gabriel said calmly but with a cold edge.
He had already checked Daniella’s account. Only just over a million dollars remained in savings. That meant Christian’s money was completely
spent.
The worst part was, that even if Wyatt took full inventory of all Daniella’s possessions, they wouldn’t add up to that amount. In other words, over half the money had gone somewhere unknown.
Gabriel suspected that she used the money to harm Abigail–or even that she had planned it as far back as when Abigail first came home.
Abigail had been so young then. Yet Daniella had managed to manipulate the Gibson family into hating her and even orchestrated a car accident when Abigail turned eighteen so she’d take the fall for it. Daniella’s scheming ran frighteningly deep.
“It’s normal for girls to spend more money,” Christian said, still trying to keep a calm and steady tone.
