Honestly, had Xavia not used the term, ‘some things’, Zivon would’ve been fine with her explanation. Regardless, since she had said it so vaguely, the unhappy man was prompted to say in an icy tone, “You looked for both Stefan and Keith when you were in trouble… Yet you didn’t even consider asking for my help? Who among us is your actual boyfriend? Do you not think I’m as important as them?”
This, of course, startled Xavia! How had he found out? Xavia, for one, had only considered Stefan first since his parents were from the medical field. However, after hearing it from Zivon’s point of view, she had to admit that her actions were slightly insensitive…
Though Zivon was still angry, upon looking at how dumbfounded the woman was, he ultimately decided not to hold it against her this time. Suppressing his anger, he then loosened his tie before placing breakfast on the table as he said, “…Have something to eat first. I’ll help you figure something out.”
Upon hearing that, Xavia’s eyes couldn’t help but moisten up a little. After all, though she had expected him to fly into a rage, in the end, he chose to be concerned about her…
As the aggrieved woman felt a lump in her throat, Zivon himself—who had been looking at her this entire time—felt his heart soften… Truth be told, he had been slightly worried that she’d be angered by his prying, but seeing her current reaction made him feel more relieved than anything.
With that, he took her into his arms and sat on one of the benches as he muttered, “You’re an adult, aren’t you? Why do you keep acting like a child? Jokes aside, rest assured. I won’t let anything happen to Grandma.”
Not only was the reliable man’s voice gentle, but his breath was also extremely pleasant. Even his warm hand—that lightly wiped her tears away—felt incredibly reassuring…
In all honesty, though it was true that Stefan had been helping her from the very start, Xavia had still been the only one taking the brunt of all the difficult choices. With all that pressure, she sometimes felt that it was hard to even breathe…
Now that Zivon was by her side, however, she finally felt like she could lean on someone… and it was a wonderful feeling.
Shaking the thought off, Xavia then took a deep breath as she muttered, “…You’re already thirty, Young Master Burton… I’m only twenty-two, so it’s only fair for me to appear childlike before you…”
Looking at the petite girl’s fair skin and supple lips, Zivon had to agree that she’d easily pass as a teenager. Still, he couldn’t help but raise a slight brow as he replied, “…Are you calling me old?”
Smiling for the first time in a while, Xavia then cheekily said, “Well, you are eight years older than me… Guess I’ll have to call you uncle from now on…”
