It was a neatly folded beautiful scarf!
“This… This is the scarf you were knitting yesterday…! Did you make it specially for my birthday?”
“I did! I figured that since your daddy could pretty much buy you anything you wanted, you’d probably find a hand-knitted scarf to be more meaningful. That aside, when you wear it during the winter, you’ll surely be able to imagine me by your side. Hopefully that’ll keep you happy as well as warm,” replied Xavia in a gentle tone as she carefully wrapped the scarf around Maison’s neck.
Overjoyed to hear that, Maison then leaped into her arms before exclaiming, “I… I love it…! I really do…! This is the best birthday present I’ve ever received… Nobody’s ever given me a handmade present before…”
Hearing that, Xavia momentarily fell silent. She knew Jenna well enough to know that she’d never consider Maison to be her own son. That certainly explained why Maison hadn’t received any maternal love as he grew up.
Sadly, Xavia couldn’t just acknowledge her son and take him from the Burton family… All she could do was secretly prepare gifts for him—and place them in the cabinet to collect dust—as she prepared Yulia’s yearly birthday presents…
Xavia’s train of thought was cut short when she heard Maison ask, “…Huh? Why’s there another much longer scarf here…?”
Shaking her head, Xavia then released Maison from her hug before explaining, “Well… that one’s for your daddy.”
Upon hearing that, Zivon was understandably surprised. After all, it wasn’t his birthday, nor was there any special occasion. With that in mind, why was she giving him a scarf out of the blue?
As Zivon stared at her for a bit, Xavia found herself growing increasingly nervous. After all, the act of gifting a scarf to a man… was an intimate action, was it not? Still, Xavia couldn’t help herself from doing so since she remembered Zivon’s backstory while knitting last night. That man needed warmth too…
Regardless, after clearing her throat, Xavia quickly added, “…I… bought too much wool yesterday, so I figured that I’d just make another! Consider it a gift for helping me care for Yulia before this… Of course, if you don’t want it, I can just take it back…”
Before Xavia could slip it away, however, Zivon had already taken the scarf as he said, “It’s rude to take a gift back, you know? Either way, I’m keeping it.”
Upon hearing that, Xavia found herself lowering her gaze. If he was keeping it, then did that mean that he was going to wear it as well? The thought of such a high-profile person wearing her hand-knitted scarf sent ripples down her heart…
