Rather than immediately escaping, Cade first brought Xavia to his home and said, “I’ll make you something to eat before we leave. I need to pack some things as well.”
…As if she’d have an appetite right now! Gently tugging his arm, Xavia replied, “I’m not hungry, and I can assure you that I can help take care of any necessities that you need once we’re free. With that said, can we please leave already…?!”
It was evident that she was worried that Leo and that man would wake up and after gently placing his hand on her shoulder, Cade said, “Don’t worry, that drug is strong enough to knock a regular person out for three days. We’ll be fine, and you should really eat up since the journey will take the entire night.”
“…Fine,” muttered Xavia who didn’t want to end up becoming a burden.
With that, she patiently waited for him to prepare a simple meal… and upon tasting it, she had to admit that it was the best thing she had eaten in days. It was so delicious, in fact, that she didn’t even question how he had gotten such good ingredients in this secluded place… Either way, it was about ten minutes later when both of them were finally ready to make their escape.
Though they had flashlights on them, they chose to rely on moonlight instead to prevent any potential detection from the villagers. Alas, that only made the journey even more arduous since they had to be extra careful not to slip on the muddy slopes. It didn’t help that the path to safety was littered with tree snakes! Even so, Xavia barely slowed down at all. In fact, she was so determined to get out of this place that Cade soon found himself needing to keep up with her!
After huffing a little, Cade couldn’t help but smile as he said, “And here I thought that those from the city were delicate… You seem to be handling yourself just fine.”
“To be fair, I only started living in the city not too long ago…”
“I see…”
Following that, the two continued chatting throughout the night… and before they knew it, they had reached the main asphalt road. Naturally, Xavia was overjoyed, and when she noticed a police car driving in the city’s direction, the excited woman took the chance to run into the middle of the road!
Thankfully, the policeman hit the brakes in time, and after raising a slight brow, he stuck his head out and asked, “Ma’am, that was incredibly dangerous!”
Walking up to his door, she felt her first tears rolling down her cheeks as she replied, “T-thank God…! Please, Sir…! Please save us…! We’ve been kidnapped by villagers for ages, and there are many others being kept against their will there as well…!”
